SF6 in switchgear

I noticed on the Kirk Hill virtual tour that a switchgear cabin had SF6 warning labels on the outside.

With the EU planning to ban SF6 in new switchgear in 2026, and there being SF6-free products already available, it would be interesting to understand the decision making process for this product selection.

SF6 has a greenhouse gas index around 23000 times that of CO2, the switchgear lose a small percentage each year and require a reclaim and disposal process at the end of working life.
