Last week the BBC were filming ๐ฅ at Derril Water with Sarah. This article was published online this morning and it will be in the news this evening. You can see in the article the metal frames that have started to be installed that will hold the solar panels.
The BBC wanted a really balanced article, and as is common with projects of this scale, there was some local opposition, but all processes were followed and the planning was consented to.
Derril Water will be the UKโs first solar park where members share ownership as well as the energy. "This enables people to be part of this amazing energy transition the UK is going through," said Ripple Energy CEO Sarah Merrick.
Unfortunately they didn't mention that the Derril Water co-op will create a Community Benefit Fund. This will provide ยฃ1,000/MW annually - up to about ยฃ42,000. We will work with the local community to determine how best the fund is used.
